Latinos in Heritage Conservation Launches Nation's First Grant Program Dedicated to Funding Latinx Heritage Projects

How did the fellowship program begin? 

As part of LHC's mission, we are dedicated to supporting future generations of Latinx preservationists, historians, planners, and educators.

Since our initiation, graduate students have contributed to The Abuelas Project and The Latinx Preservation Toolkit.

We seek graduate students (Master's and PhD) who demonstrate a dedication to advocating for Latinx heritage, have a strong commitment to community engagement, and bring innovative perspectives to the field.

The fellowship program is important to LHC as it provides one of the few fellowship opportunities specifically for Latinx graduate students in historic preservation.

The Abuelas Project and The Latinx Preservation Toolkit,

work alongside LHC staff to record the history of community members and receive mentorship to help guide their career paths and enrich their understanding of Latinx heritage work. Opportunities for networking, skill-building, and collaboration with peers are central to the fellowship experience.

What is the fellowship timeline?

Fellowships typically span five months, offered in conjunction with the Fall and Spring semester. All fellowships are mostly remote and range between 10-20 hours a week.

Who are good fellowship candidates?  

Ideal candidates for our fellowship are passionate Latinx individuals committed to the preservation of cultural heritage, with a desire to build and sustain Latinx legacies across fields like historic preservation, Latinx Studies, history, urban planning, and education.

We seek graduate students (Master's and PhD) who demonstrate a dedication to advocating for Latinx heritage, have a strong commitment to community engagement, and bring innovative perspectives to the field.
