Project Background:
In 2022, Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC) launched the Abuelas Project, a multi-year preservation initiative to collect, curate, and amplify stories about places that matter to Latinx communities in the country. Building on recent efforts to conserve Latinx heritage, the digital project uncovers the social, cultural, and economic connections our communities forge through historic places. The Abuelas Project encourages intergenerational storytelling using new media, shares information about Latinx preservation (theme studies, surveys, nominations, etc.), supports allied efforts to designate Latinx historic sites, and identifies important patterns related to Latinx preservation nationwide.
Position Summary:
The graduate scholar will work with LHC’s Geospatial Project Manager, the Education and Outreach Department, and Preservation Department to conduct research into histories and places associated with our LHC’s Abuelas Borderlands research and projects. The scholar will assist the Geospatial Project Manager in developing and managing Esri products, such as Dashboards and StoryMaps. Additionally, the scholar will virtually attend biweekly departmental meetings, as well as weekly check-ins with the Geospatial Project Manager via Teams.
