Title: Archive Scholar

Anticipated dates of service: 14 weeks; 15 hours a week

Location: Remote

Pay rate: $5,000 total, paid bi-monthly


Position Summary:

The archive fellow will work with LHC’s Education Coordinator, the Geospatial Project Manager, and the Director of Education and Outreach to organize gathered data obtained during the creation and maintenance of the Latinx Preservation Toolkit and the Abuelas Project.  The scholar will directly assist the Education Coordinator, as they build the LHC internal archive from the ground up. The scholar will be responsible or entering the metadata for the digital resources, in both Spanish and English. Additionally, the scholar will virtually attend biweekly departmental meetings, as well as weekly check-ins with the Education Coordinator via Zoom.

This position will report immediately to the Education Coordinator.

This fellowship is 3.5 months long.


Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Education:

  • Currently enrolled and taking classes at an accredited US graduate (Masters or PhD)

  • Studies and/or experience in digital humanities, history, historic preservation, public history, American studies, Indigenous Studies, Chicanx or Latinx studies or a related field

  • Working knowledge of history, Latinx or Chicanx history, and/or knowledge in digital archives preferred, to include writing metadata

  • Familiarity with/interest in the digital humanities, including methods of collecting, translating, and categorizing qualitative data.

  • Self-starter with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Comfortable reading and writing in Spanish, to include translating documents and writing metadata in both Spanish and English


Technology and Equipment Requirements:

  • Personal computer (no tablet)

  • High speed internet connection

  • Decision made: Wednesday, February 12, 2025

  • Fellowship begins: Monday, March 3, 2025

  • Fellowship concludes: Friday, June 6, 2025
