LATINOS IN HERITAGE CONSERVATION
EQUITY RESEARCH
Data Collection
As of 2008, only .11% of sites listed in the National Register relate to the stories and contributions of Latinos in the United States. The survey will help LHC track the growth Latinx Heritage has had since the launch of the American Latino Heritage Initiative over a decade ago including:
-
Number of sites in the National Registers
-
Programming, initiatives, and outreach
-
Resources (staff, budget)
Much of the survey focuses on qualitative responses, therefore a PDF document with a list of questions is also provided here.
Overview
This research seeks to advance Latinx heritage preservation on a national scale by conducting a comprehensive review of the National Park Service’s American Latino Heritage Initiative (2011). The study will analyze the impact of this pioneering program, which produced the influential American Latinos and the Making of the United States: A Theme Study.
Through this analysis, LHC aims to identify successful strategies and develop recommendations to guide future federal policies and funding for Latinx historic preservation. The goal is to ensure that the historical and ongoing contributions of Latinx communities to the United States are accurately represented and preserved for future generations.
